Breast Surgery

Dr. Denise Barajas is the Medical Director and part of the surgical team at the Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness. Dr. Barajas joined the staff of Griffin Hospital as Medical Director of the Griffin Hospital Center for Breast Wellness in December 2012. She is an experienced breast surgeon and expert on breast cancer screening, early detection, and treatment. Dr. Barajas comes to Griffin from the Hospital of Saint Raphael, where she was Director of the Women’s Center for Breast Health.

Dr. Barajas works closely with the entire team at the Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness, to provide world-class care. That team includes radiologists, technologists, breast health navigators, oncologists, and genetic counselors. Women of color less likely to have breast cancer test

Barajas said that one of the most upsetting things about the Yale study, is that it’s first breast cancer-related disparity she’s aware of involving a physician-led treatment. Mostly, Barajas said, it’s patients who opt not to have the treatment. “This test is offered by oncologists, for the most part," she said. “You’d like to think that an oncologist would treat all women the same.”
